Dog Obedience Training- How Do I House Train a Shih tzu?
I am so excited because I just bought a puppy about a week ago. He is 11 weeks now.
I want to do everything right because I have heard they can be difficult dogs to house break for some people.
I am taking him outside every two hours or so
I am using a crate
I give him a treat every time he does the deed outside
Does anyone have any good house breaking tips or training methods, because we still have accidents. And like, what should I do when I catch him going in the house?

Great Reasons To Use Dog Crate Training
Dog crate training is a fantastic tool for owners of new puppies and grown dogs alike. In nature, a dog’s home is called a den. When dog crate training is properly managed, the crate becomes a substitute for that den, a safe haven where the dog feels secure and happy.
What is a dog training crate?
A dog training crate can be any container, from metal cages to the plastic carriers that are used for transporting dogs on airplanes. The metal dog cage is a popular choice of crate because it allows the dog complete visibility through the bars. Many models are also collapsible.
Soft bedding material should be placed on the crate’s floor. The dog is often fed inside the dog crate to increase positive associations.
Size matters. The crate should be large enough for the dog to stand, turn around, and lie down in. However, there should not be too much room beyond his bed, or a dog may choose to ‘do his business’ in the crate.

What is crate dog training?
Crate dog training is the process of teaching a dog to happily remain in his dog crate for a few hours during the day, or overnight. The dog will not soil the crate because of the natural taboo against eliminating in his den.
How is crate training a dog accomplished?
The food bowl is placed in the dog crate so that the dog enters on his own free will. The door is closed while he is eating, and then opened again when he is finished. Each time, the door stays closed a little longer, until the dog is accustomed to being in the crate for extended periods of time.
In order for dog crate training to be successful, the crate is never used as a dungeon where the animal is imprisoned after punishment. The dog must only have happy associations with his crate.
What are some great reasons to crate training dogs?
House training a new puppy is the primary reason that most owners use dog crate training. Puppies cannot roam free, either in the house or the yard, until they are house trained. The crate is a secure place to hold the puppy between trips out to his designated potty spot. Taking the puppy out on a regular schedule will keep him from accidentally soiling his den.
The crate is also a place where the puppy can spend the night. When he has experienced puppy crate training, he will learn to sleep in his crate without whining. Putting the crate in the bedroom will allow the puppy to imprint with the owner’s scent, increasing the bond between dog and human.
Owners may also need to be able to secure their puppy or dog while they run errands. This is especially important during the teething phase, preventing harm to furniture and shoes. Some dogs express separation anxiety through destructive acts. Crating the dog eliminates the possibility that the owner will come home to find his house a shambles.
For the dog, the crate becomes a special place or safe refuge from scary events, such as thunderstorms. Make sure you to keep plenty of treats and toys to help him deal with the scary event or until he is ready for a nap. The crate is also a recognizable place when the dog must travel to a new location, such as a vacation home, or in the event of a permanent move.
Crates are a fantastic way to safely transport the dog in a car. Dogs make great travelers when they are in their own, portable bedroom. Many dogs seek out their crates as an ideal spot for napping. The crate will become their favorite place to relax and enjoy some solitude if there has been successful dog crate training.

Getting Ready for Dog Training Command
Dog Training Commands
Training your dog to follow simple dog commands should not be a daunting task. Start your dog training commands by showing your dog several purpose specific commands such as “come here”, “sit down”, “stay here”, “heel now”, and “Fetch”. Successfully mastering these dog commands will give you and your dog confidence and lay the foundation for more advanced dog training commands.
Its important that you incorporate certain dog training supplies during any dog obedience training so they become second nature to your dog. Your dog training supplies should a leash, collar, bait rope, crate, and motivational toys. If you start training your dog without the any of these dog training items later on your dog might become irritated and not follow your commands.

Dog Training Supplies Needed During Dog Commands Training:
1. Leash
Buy a six foot long leash made of high quality leather. Leather is preferable because is not heavy, is easy to carry, and last longer.
2. Collar
Select the appropriate size for your type of dog. Irregular sized collars can cause irritation, because the collar tighten the strap when dogs tries to walk away and looses as the dog relaxes. If your dog doesn’t like the collar you might want to try a halter.
3. Lines
This is the same as a leash but it helps you control your dog from distance. Select a 15 foot long line.
4. Bait Pouches
This is used to keep tasty dog treats. Bait pouches are made of canvas and are tie around your waits. Its important that you reward your dog the minute he does the desire request. If you keep them in your pocket you might waste time finding them and be unable to give the treat or reward to the dog when it deserve it.
5. Crate
This can be any container such as metal cages or plastic carrier. The metal dog cage is prefer because it allows your dog to see his surroundings. Today there many collapsible models to choose from. The size should be large enough for your dog to stand and turn around. Soft bedding material should be placed inside the crate.
When you start any dog training command, avoid distractions so select a spot in the home that is free of other activities. Make sure you have tasty treats as rewarding your dog the minute he/she provides the desired behavior is key to a successful dog training command session. Once your dog has mastered a command at home, you need to take him to different places (street, park) and practice the command as many times as possible. This will not happen overnight but with a lot of practice, patience, and consistency your dog will learn to respond to your commands. Only move on to the next command, once your dog has gotten the ability to block out distractions and still effectively respond to your command.
To avoid forgetting the actual cue words used during your training, we suggest you keep a dog training command log. Use this log to keep detailed notes about the different training methods you have used, which methods work best for your dog, and how your dog is progressing in its training.
