My new 2 yr old shelter dog is great, except for unreasonable amounts of aggression towards cats/dogs/animals?
My boyfriend and I have recently adopted a sweet 2-year old Kai Inu/Husky/Shepard mix named Lucy from our local shelter. We took to her almost immediately but know she is in need of some training. The people at the shelter warned us that she is a little aggressive as far as other animals. We were immediately turned off but decided to find out for ourselves and take her home for a couple-night sleepover. After having her in my backyard she spotted the neighbors dog through the fence and proceeded on running the length of the fence back and forth, cramming her nose through the holes, and growling very aggressively. Her tail was wagging the entire time spite the fact she was baring her teeth. (She didn’t do this in the shelter…) We decided to put her on leash and let her smell the dog face to face. Once she actually met the dog she didn’t rush over and ambush the dog but merely smelled it and lost interest almost immediately.
We realized she was all bark and no bite. All other instances with her have been positive and she has been responding to us and recognizing us as her owners except when there are other animals around she cannot get the opportunity to meet if they are within sight. She is an entirely different dog and does not listen or acknowledge us. We have adopted her but yesterday we had her in our car in an area where there were other dogs walking by. She freaked out, started barking aggressively and really scared us. We tried the "alpha rollover" and I feel like this only made her more aggressive minutes later. We scolded her, said "no!" and tried to distract her with no success. It was scary and disheartening to a degree. She is almost a "perfect" dog other then this fact. It also seems she was a quiet dog until we got her home and now she has started to bark increasingly.
We live with my boyfriend’s grandmother who has a cat whom she adores, but unfortunately is an outdoor cat and needs to get in an out of the house to use the bathroom. Lucy cannot and will not settle down if the cat is within smell or sight. She will tear through everything and anything to get to the cat.
I’m not sure what to do with Lucy and feel it is because she is a little bit of a "special" case because of the fact that she is changing owners at 2 years and has come from a shelter. I do want to stop any bad training behavior of mine and keep it consistent in such a crucial time when she is learning who we are and how we handle her.

How do I get my dog to stop barking?!?
Hey all…I’ve recently moved into a new apartment building and my dog is still in the process of getting used to it. I also lost a dog and had to put him down due to illness so I don’t believe that she is over that yet either. I’ve talked to my vet and she said to give her long walks, which I do and Benedryl which didn’t work. She then told me to give her Xanax, which I’ve done and she still barks when I’m away from home. I’ve tried exercising her, sedating her, bought bark boxes that were supposed to deter her barking, I give her a kong to play with when I leave, I play "doggie zen" music for her while I’m away on repeat, I’ve tried citronella collars and I believe that I’m out of options. Someone said to take her to a training class but I honestly don’t think that it’s going to help. My neighbors are complaining about her barking. I feel like the only other option is to get her a friend to be around so that she isn’t lonely but I don’t have the money to do that. Any ideas?

How do I stop my dogs from barking? As far as I know I've tried everything.?
I have a two year old beagle/corgi mix, and an 18 month old corgi. They both bark excessively at every little sound. Living in an apartment complex, little sounds happen all the time. I have tried a shock collar (only works on the beagle, but not always. I do not like the idea of leaving it on her at all times). I have sprayed with a water bottle, used an empty can full of coins to shake and startle them. Muzzle, hitting the nose, holding their mouth shut, saying no, enough, stop, no barking, and everything else that comes to mind in a loud firm voice. I read to try and train them to bark and then teach them when to stop and that didn’t work either. I am at my wits end. I cannot take them on walks or out in public because all they do is bark at every person, and my neighbors complain because they bark at every noise at all hours in my apartment. The only thing I can think of that I haven’t tried is a citronella collar, but they are so expensive to buy two. Is there any other way or am I going to have to buy two? Is it safe to keep those collars on them at all times? I worry with the shock collar one will bite or chew it and electrocute themselves or the dog wearing it. Not to mention the shock collar does not even phase my corgi.
Please help!!

How can I get my new puppy (9 weeks old) to stop barking at night?
We want to start keeping her outside at night because she is a big breed and will grow fast. She has been difficult to potty train so we bought her a dog igloo (which she loves and is in most of the day). But at night, she wants to be inside with us and will whine and bark all night. I fear the neighbors and mother-in-law are getting sick of it. HELP ME!
I do not neglect my dog. She is the most spoiled dog I know. Please no more naive people answering my questions. She has her warm comfy doggie igloo outside. She has been with me for since 6 weeks. It’s time she learns to stay outside because in a few more weeks, she will be huge! THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER SOPH
my dog is being socialized properly. I have had her for three weeks going on four. She has been in public almost everyday with me since I’ve had her. I never said anything about leaving her by herself during the day. AGAIN PLEASE NO MORE DUMB ANSWERS!
Its more of a case like I spend too much time with my dog and she misses me too much when I’m not there. I think I should spend less time with her because she has been by my side for the past three weeks straight. ANYONE OUT THERE DOG TRAINERS OR PROFESSIONALS THAT CAN HELP ME?
THE DOG HAS BEEN SLEEPING WITH US IN BED FOR THREE WEEKS< SINCE WE GOT HER! WE WANT HER TO START STAYING BY HERSELF BEFORE SHE GETS TOO BIG!

Out Neighbor’s Dog Won’t Stop Barking!!!?
Our neighbor’s dogs will not stop barking and since we live in a rural area we can’t just shut the windows and ignore it. Regardless of whether they are home or not, the dogs bark essentially non-stop all day, very early in the morning and sometimes at night. (They are pit bulls so it is a terrible, shrieking sound.) We have spoken to them about it several times and they constantly say that they will "take care of it," but clearly they are either unable or unwilling to do so. We live in a nice, essentially no-crime area and they are making most people in the neighborhood extremely stressed out and several different neighbors have called the police and animal control. Animal control told us that they have been fined, but this doesn’t appear to have done anything.
We are so stressed out at this point that any time we hear a dog anywhere we cringe and we are unable to focus on homework or anything because of the sound and our fear of it starting up again. Like I said, we have already contacted both the police and animal control, what is our next step to have this dealt with? Someone once suggested buying a "no-bark collar," but this is not an option because they are expensive and we are not going to spend our hard-earned money on them when they are the ones who should be taking care of the problem. (Our neighbors clearly will not invest in dog training so they are certainly not going to buy anything either.) We would like to know who we should speak to next, such as a specific person in the police department or perhaps something specific we could request of animal control, who come out to the house very often.
Thanks for the suggestions, but I can’t feed the dog because it is in a fenced in pen. Also, we think that our neighbors know we have called the police and will be very angry if we try to feed their dog anything.
P.S. We are in the U.S., any suggestions about who to call or write here?
