how do you stop dogs from chewing there feet?
our chihuahua chews on his back feet all the time for no reason he has been to the vet and there is nothing wrong with it other than what he does to it by chewing it…. so in other words its psychological. we are getting tired of telling him off so often as he doesn’t get the point that he is not allowed to chew his foot.

Dog aggression, is she hopeless?
Well my female American Bullldog/ Border Collie mix has severe aggression towards other dogs and people sometimes. She was fine as a puppy but once she was about a year she got really aggressive.
She started attacking other dogs at the dog run. She’d be fine until a bone or ball came out and then she’d fight the other dogs to get the item even if it wasnt hers. Or if I had her at the dog run and another dog came by me she’d stop whatever she was doing and charge at the dog and attack it. Needless to say I stopped taking her to the dog run.
My vet said that I should try getting another dog because she seemed to be fine with puppies. So the vet said if I got another dog that she’d be able to grow with it and get used to being with other dogs.
She was fine with the puppy at first but she started attacking him anytime he’d go near her food, any bones, any toys, or if he’d try to go near me. We started seperatin them because I can’t train him when she is always attacking him when I’m trying to work with him. That seemed to work well. I kept them seperated unless there was no food, toys, or bones anywhere. And I wouldn’t pay individual attention to either one in particular.
Now the last 3 days she’s been attacking him for no reason. She’ll just charge him and attack him out of the blue. And when I’m saying she’s "attacking" I mean drawing blood even when the puppy is laying on his back giving up. And she just keeps going at him. I pull her away and she’ll charge at him. I keep having to take the puppy to the vet because so far shes bit open his face and it formed an absess, she bit a chunk out of the tip of his ear, tore up his leg, and bit open his lip. I try to pull them apart before any damage but she doesn’t let go and keeps attacking.
She’s ussually good with people during walks unless someone gets within 3 feet of me, then stands between me and the person and growls. I don’t know if she’d actually attack because most people stop approaching at this point.
She means sooo much to me and the thought of putting her to sleep isn’t an option. I was planning on just keeping her and the puppy seperated almost all the time until he’s full grown because he’ll be very large and the vet said that should help.
The problem now though, besides everything I listed is the fact that I found out a little over a month that we’re having a baby. And I’m afraid that she’ll be jealous of the baby and attack it if it touches any of the dog stuff. I’ve never seem her around young kids so I don’t know how she’d react. She was fine with my younger siblings but they were 11 and 12 so they weren’t very young.
Is she hopeless? She saved my life and was the only thing that got me through my boyfriends suicide in 2007 and I can’t just get rid of her or out her down. Please help and no mean comments please I really just want serious answers.
She went through multiple obedience classes and has never done anything to me. I can touch her toys, take food out of her mouth without any problems. I’m actually the only one she listens to. And she’s been with me 24/7 since I got her and is very submissive towards me. Anytime I yell at her she automatically rolls unto her back is submission. And I’ve had trainers try to work with her but they are impressed by how well trained she is and can’t figure out the problem.
She’s currently 1 1/2 years old. She was fine for the first year. I moved out into an apartment for about 4 months and she stayed with my parents for four months and I got her back 2 months ago and the aggression started. So I’m not sure what happened during those 4 months but that’s when she changed.

How do I make my outside siberian to an inside, trained house dog? do you think its worth it?
My mom and dad are divorced and i only see my dad every weekend. Sometimes every two weekends. I feel my dog gets no attention there and whenever i go there he gets even skinnier and I always find ticks on him. Now i know this is neglect, I need to do something! I have decided since my mom is moving to place where she can have animals and there would always be someone in the house, I would bring him there. But there’s a problem, he has always been an outside dog and I need to make him housetrained. I plan on buying a big book on house training and i plan on using my money to take him to obedience class. To do this, I also have to earn at least 300 dollars. I’m only 14 So, that’s a lot of money! I’m thinking 100 for supplies, 100 for the training, and 100 for the vet from all those ticks! do you think that’s about right? I have about 150 so i still have to make a lot. I think it’s worth it, do you??? Can you give me any tips on training??? Please help!!!!

How do I train my dog to stop tearing everything apart?
I’ve read some stuff saying that maybe he’s lonely or constantly anxious because we don’t spend enough time with him, but after a couple weeks of consistently playing with him and walking him, he still tears everything apart (plants, trash, gardening tools). No, I’m not talking about him getting all kujo on everything, because that’s not the case.
He’s always calm and just relaxing but he likes to chew on things.
I bought him like a million toys, which have helped only a little–we’ve ultimately just ended up trying to keep the backyard CONSTANTLY empty. Which means CONSTANTLY boring.
Thanks for the help!
Oh, forgot to add: yes, he’s a puppy. 12 months; at least the vet says that still counts as puppy. Oh, and he’s a chocolate lab.

My American bulldod Puppy is being agressive.. pls HELP ME?
hi, I just got a american bulldog (2 months) and I have some concerns…
This is not the first time i have a dog. I used to live with my brother who bought a Golden Retriever and I was the one who train him.
My concern is that he makes aggressive sounds like snarling, show his teeth and bark to me and my son. The reason why i am concern is because yesterday i had two incidents. First, my cousin who is 11 carry him and hug him. My doggy Tiger starting liking his face and we were like ohhh he’s so cute.. when suddently he just bited him in his chin. Of course, he started crying when he saw he had blood on his chin. I told tiger NOOO and gave him a toy to chew. Later in the night we were playing hide&seek when my son when to touch him to bring him back to me, Tiger jump and bited his neck, he made a big scracth and bleed too.
Is this normal behaviour?? What can I do?? Right now its okay becuase he is still a baby but it would be diffirent when he grows up.
Other concern that i have, is that he pees in his bed and in the special corner i have for him.. he pees and then lie on top of the pee.. is this normal too? Any ideas on how to stop that??
Thank you for your help
Nathaly
Last week when I took him to the vet, my doggy wasn’t acting like this. I wan’t to put him in training classes but the vet said to wait two more weeks for his last vaccines, since he will be with other dogs, he could get sick…
Does anyone has an idea of what can i do while he sees the vet next week….
I do walking everyday… At 7am, 10 am, 12 pm, 2:30 pm, 5:30 pm, and 8 pm, then he goes to sleep.
So, if he bites I say NO and do not give him nothing to chew???

How do I get my small dog to stop aggressive behavior towards dogs and people?
I adopted my 20 lb. dachshund mix from a rescue group about a year and a half ago- she is about 3 years old. She is very sweet and loyal and well-behaved with me and my roommate, but she is often aggressive towards other people and dogs (not always though– very unpredictable). She growls at them and snaps at them if I don’t pull her away quickly. She’s very protective of me and territorial about our apartment, but she also acts aggressive when there doesn’t seem to be any threat or reason. She also acts really fearful at times, like at the vet or the groomers, where she completely freaks out, so her aggression might be related to fear, but I’m not sure. She’s too small to do any really major damage, but I’m afraid something will happen and cause legal problems or, worse case scenario, I could be ordered to put her down– I can’t even bear to think about that!
Please let me know if you have any suggestions!
Thank you, everyone, for your input. As a side note, my dog is spayed and I do make an effort to ignore others and other dogs while we are out walking. If I can’t ignore them, I make an effort to be friendly and open, hoping she will get the vibe that there is nothing to fear. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn’t. Over the past several days I’ve begun implementing some stricter discipline while walking on a leash (teaching her to heel, instead of running up ahead), and that seems to be helping a little– she learns quickly!
It sounds like the general consensus is professional training and I’ve begun looking into that. I’ve found a trainer nearby who sounds pretty good and hope to set up an appointment soon.
Thanks again to everyone! Please remember that people wouldn’t post on here if they didn’t realize they needed help, so please be respectful in offering advice. Thanks again to everyone who offered valuable insight and advice on this!

Are my dogs changes unique, or does neuter/spay-ing effect all dogs this way?
I have six dogs, but one of them was very recently adopted, so I’m going to exclude her for the reason that I’m really unsure of what her behavioral patterns will be after spaying.
-Lola, ten months, lab/golden mix. Shelter mutt.
The shelter I adopted Lola from, six months ago, made me promise to spay her within 30 days of adoption.
I would’ve anyways, though.
She was shy and awkward(clumsy) when I adopted her. She was a nice looking dog, not aggressive. Her trainer said she needed to break out of her shell.
Her health was "ok, nothing to worry about" as the vet described.
Since the spay, she has been nothing but nippy, she barks at inatimate objects, she tries to push me around with her weight, she hates her trainer(who now says she’s a stubborn b*tch–in it’s original context of course) and the vet gets stress wrinkles everytime I bring her near.
-Draek, three years, blue heeler. Purebred, champion bloodlines, show-worthy.
Since I don’t own any other blue heelers, and he hasn’t won any shows(not worthy to be a sire), I had Draek neutered at 4 mo.s.
He was always a friendly and happy pup. The surgery didn’t really effect him extremely, but he has never been as outgoing or playful since about two days after the operation–when he started lagging around. The trainer says he seems lethargic or depressed…he doesn’t enjoy his walks anymore, and he won’t play with the other dogs. He just….lays around.
The vet says he’s healthy.
-Maverick, two years, basenji. Purebred, champion bloodlines, several awards.
This dog is intact. He’s won many awards, screened as 100% healthy, no problems, an angels temperament, and purebred, AKC, from champion bloodlines. I would rather cut off my index finger than neuter this gorgeous dog!
His trainer describes him as easy going and one of the least stubborn Basenji’s he’s ever dealt with.
Vet says he’s totally clear.
-Yeti, seven years, Shiba Inu. Purebred, champion bloodlines, 10+ awards.
this amazing dog has had her share in life. I bought her at just over a year. She had all her AKC papers, had been shown and won every show(3) she’d been entered in, and she had an appt. to be spayed! I canceled the apt, and gave her two months to warm up to my family before I made another one.
Once she was warmed up, I realized she had the most wonderful personality. So I had her screened. Clean! So I bred her twice, with another champion Shiba. The pups are being shown today. Still in contact with the owners.
When she turned five years old, she started to lag a bit. By six I stopped putting her in any competitions, and I had her spayed. About two days after the operation i noticed some odd behavior. Aggression toward the other dogs, random shaking, growling at me and other people. Vet said no problems. Got a second and third opinion but they also said her health was–well, no problems at all.
I took her to her old trainer she had as a pup, and he didn’t know what to say. He said maybe it was a stressful operation at her age and she couldn’t handle it.
Since then she has bit me twice, three other people, and has to be kept separated from my other dogs, or she will tear them apart!
-Jackie, two years, JRT. Shelter dog.
she was spayed a couple of months after I adopted her. She was always nippy and hyper, which is somewhat to be expected from her breed.
But after I spayed her, about a week approximately, she bit her trainer.
She bit me.
She started urinating in the house.
Barking at everything that moves.
I’ve gone through four different trainers to get this one that will work with Jackie despite her specific issues, and now he says she may need another six months or year to pass all her courses.
The vet says she’s in good condition — not great, like she was before I spayed her, but good.
I’ve always used the same positive+negative training methods for all my dogs, which teach them what they are supposed to and not supposed to do.
I feed them all raw diet, as well as Blue Buffalo dry.
They are all current on vaccinations, and I have never skipped out.
They’ve all been taken to behavior school, and been through/are going through all levels as well as some excess in-the-home training(all training beginning @ 3 mo.s old)
I have adopted a beautiful wolf\malamute hybrid at two years old. I don’t intend to breed her, as she has no wins and isn’t registered, but I don’t want to ruin her temperament by spaying her.
Should I desex her? No?
After I had Lola desexed, and it went so horribly, I switched to a different vet. He’s an awesome vet, have heard nothing but the best from him. Several of my friends have had their dogs desexed through him, no side effects.
Is it something about my home? About the way I’m acting?

I need some tips on how to train an adult dog, please help!?
A neighbor of mine ask me if I would buy her cockier spaniel. She said that she was deadly allergic to her and that she is a good dog, and was housebroken. I took my golden around her (at their house) and he loved her, so I said okay; because she said that she would have to take her to the pound. So we got her here and she poops and pees all over the place (even after she is let outside, where I watch her poop and pee, she will still poop in the house) and she is 2 1/2 years old, can she be housebroken at this age? Also her beautiful locks were matted and I couldn’t brush them out, so I took her to the groomers and they cut it all off (because the matted hair was so bad) will her beautiful coat return? If so, how long does it take. (PS she is still beautiful bald, but the curly locks were cute too.). Thanks in advance!
(the previous owners were in the process of moving and are now gone, cannot get in contact with them – only had a house # which is out of service. Vet says she is otherwise healthy)

How do I get my dog to stop barking?!?
Hey all…I’ve recently moved into a new apartment building and my dog is still in the process of getting used to it. I also lost a dog and had to put him down due to illness so I don’t believe that she is over that yet either. I’ve talked to my vet and she said to give her long walks, which I do and Benedryl which didn’t work. She then told me to give her Xanax, which I’ve done and she still barks when I’m away from home. I’ve tried exercising her, sedating her, bought bark boxes that were supposed to deter her barking, I give her a kong to play with when I leave, I play "doggie zen" music for her while I’m away on repeat, I’ve tried citronella collars and I believe that I’m out of options. Someone said to take her to a training class but I honestly don’t think that it’s going to help. My neighbors are complaining about her barking. I feel like the only other option is to get her a friend to be around so that she isn’t lonely but I don’t have the money to do that. Any ideas?

Minature schnauzer bad odor, possibly yeast infection, with bacterial? also MAJOR training issues?
Your Question
My schnauzer is 4 years old. He has had multiple infections such as: yeast/bacterial infection in his ear, his ears are extremely red, inverted testicle ( where only one testicle drops) and to top it all of now his belly skin is extremely infected. I changed his diet to a prescription grade, he gets a daily vitamin, olive oil, and egg in his food. I have also been putting natural herbal remedies (high grade, not just from Walmart in his food.)anti-yeast, ant-fungals in his food daily. Recently I have noticed a tooth decaying problem, and he has some pretty bad breath…( he will NOT let me brush his teeth or get anywhere near his mouth.) We are in the process of getting his teeth professionally cleaned at the vets, but it is very expensive at least where I live. I have researched this extensively and I have found most schnauzer have bad skin. I bought him special shampoo’s just for bacterial/yeast problems, and special creams and ointments. I am on my last resort… I do not understand why my dog has so many health problems. Does anyone know what I can do to help him out?
If someone suggests exercise, we are implementing that-very slowly I might add- he HATES to be walked and becomes extremely aggressive when he is on a leash aka bites it, cries, jumps, and tries to strangle himself… sigh. Yes, he is very hard to train.. extremely hyper… HELP! He also bites his lead outside. He has a very horrible jumping problem. Plus he is very, very food and toy aggressive. Anyone know of how to stop some or ALL of these behaviors. He does bite people, including my husband and me. I will not put my dog down. Any suggestions on these never-ending behavior issues?
Thank you for all the insightful answers, he has been neutered for around 3 years now, due to the inverted testicle causing cancer. The food that we are currently giving him Royal Canin for Mini Schnauzers, you might of seen this food on in Pet Smart by the Vet station. We actually purchased the dog from a breeder, but I have a funny feeling that he may be more of a puppy mill dog due to all the issues. We did consider the amount of time it would take to train the dog, we spent about 8 months just getting him house broken, that was with consistency. I will check around the area for a qualified professional trainer, we were just hoping after all this time.. we could get it right. The yogurt is a great idea, and possibly the apple cider vinegar as long as my vet approves of it.
